Might as well ask this, because a few others have done this and it's rather annoying when it happens. No indication you are doing this but... will this suddenly become "you will need to purchase to proceed further"? There hasn't been any indication you are, but two other devs decided it would suddenly be paid only for future updates.
Onto more enjoyable topics! Will Perrine sneak out to visit her cousins for a day, then return as if nothing happened? Will Aki, Miko, Suzu, and Nene play a round of poker with the winner getting to kiss the MC anywhere she chooses? Will Jumichiro be found dead in the park, from what looks like someone going crazy with a baseball bat? Will Nao swing by the convenience store when the MC is there and Ino spends 15 minutes saying how great the MC is to Nao? Will Suzu model for the MC? (OK, OK, these are just wishes, all of them are far enough out there expect Suzu modelling that I wouldn't expect you to actually implement any of them)
Ah, no. Crimson High will stay free to play indefinitely. While I can see how one could get tempted to add a paywall, I personally think it's a bad business model, and something that instantly and irreversibly turns me as a player away from a project. Do I think my work and especially my consistent and reliable output deserves more, especially when compared to some of my.. let's say less motivated colleagues? Sure, yeah. But I don't think forcing people to pay to be able to access updates is the way to go. Either people recognize and cherish the game for what it is, or they don't and I gotta do better with my next project.
The only thing I will say is that I may add optional paid content at some point. However, that will not be in any way restricting the main game slash story. If anything, it will be something that enhances the experience in some way. I do have some ideas already, too, but I have yet to decide if I actually want to implement them in CH or keep them for a future project. And like I said, they won't be in any way detrimental to the current, free to play experience, but rather just an optional bit of flavor for whomever wants it. Think cosmetic/soundtrack DLC for games on Steam, or the like.
As for your wishes.. well, all I can say to them is: maybe? :P
I didn't think you were, honestly. It's just that when I really love a game and the dev says "from this point on, it's gonna be paid only" I get a little paranoid about other games that I love and hope they aren't gonna follow suit. There's been a few games that are "latest version is X, but that one is a paywall. If you want to still play it, here's the previous version free of charge" - so you won't get the latest stuff but still have fun. I don't mind that so much, because it's been that way from the beginning. The "pay if you want to keep playing" (or free to play, but you have to pay to win) are the ones that bother me.
As far as the wishes go, I realize you probably get a ton of "you should add X, it'll be so cool!", just means that we really like it!
Yeah, I get that. It's always a bummer when that happens. But worry not, that ain't gonna happen with CH!
I do and it's always disheartening to have to let people down, but I still appreciate all of the suggestions. And, of course, there's always the chance that one of them serves as a source of inspiration - happened before and will happen again, so thanks for sharing :)
While id love the idea of kana crashing out and somehow kidnapping mc, it wouldn't make alot of sense with the already established plot and her character. I mean one of the many other wonderful characters can (mainly the more powerful ones or ones we dont know all that well yet)
While I can't speak for every choice, they do matter in some ways. If you take the panties in the beginning, and if you look into Mariko having sexy time or not, those choices do affect things down the road. Also, some choices will result in "search for hamster" or not - one of the choices results in sexy time with your valley girl friend and the other results in search for a hamster. Not sure about ignoring some girls though.
I was thinking it must be too much to ask form a VN to have different main plot routes but at the same time I am a bit surprised how the MC must fall in for Suzu and forget about Miko for a while/a few day that is
This AVN is not the strongest candidate for 'choices matter'. You can avoid lewds with some of girls and avoid a scene of dialogue or two.
This is very common for AVNs.
Personally I don't think its too much to ask for choices to matter in more than just lewds but it would increase the complexity of the programming and story, probably to the point that Dev time will jump up immensely.
For me Crimson High is great because of the characters and the story but also because it has an extremely fast Dev time and the Dev is very reliable.
I would vote against changing Crimson Highs current progress. I think its more important to keep the 4-6 week dev times on the release than to integrate more freedom of choice.
Its unusual for me to say that that but there it is.
But then most AVNs have a 6+ month cycle on their releases, so there is nothing to lose by asking that they add in more choices. They are already slow after all.
I realize it's kind of a throwaway line, but if you tell Miko that her Mom is having some sexy time, Mariko says a little later it's like the MC's Mom having sexy time, and he says "I wouldn't know, Mom died when I was a baby", and Mariko says "this is awkward, how can I make it even more so? Maybe show pics of Miko as a kid..." and now I'm wondering how cute Miko was as a kid!
Gotta wonder, when you intend to have another scene with Emma (the exchange student) and if you plan on having another scene with Morrigan, if only to act as a foil to Kuro's silliness!
There's actually a picture of Miko as a kid in Mariko's dining area. I think it's visible in at least one scene - probably after Mariko teaches MC how to cook. :P
Emma will take a hot minute, but Morrigan we'll see again very soon! (think v0.44 soon :P)
also just as a side note from observing the release schedules and public releases it takes around 50-ish days for the next update to start arriving? am i correct on this people who have been here longer than i have? just curious because i am totally not going to count the days til the next update because i can totally wait for it hehehehehh:|
It's usually 5-6 weeks per update. Last update was a bit of an exception since I decided to keep going with the writing for v0.43 (the upcoming update) instead of making it the usual length, and with the way I work (I finish writing for the very next update before rendering and releasing the current update at the time), that ended up extending the development time for v0.42. :)
I do enjoy writing quite a lot, yeah. The way I think of CH reflects this pretty well, I'd say: In my eyes, the game isn't a porn game, first and foremost, but rather a romance visual novel with supernatural elements.
However, I do think that every good romance novel should include sexual themes, seeing as sex is a normal part of real life romance (with exceptions, of course). So, writing about love but ignoring sex seems kind of silly to me. Hence my making CH into an adult visual novel with the focus on the "visual novel" part, rather than the "adult" part.
But fret not, there will be a good amount of adult content in the game, too.
And it seems I was right about you. I, too, enjoy that aspect of romance VNs not that I would mind sweating through well cared custom H scenes. Intimacy takes time and effort so, I do love how you look at it, thank you for the CH. And Thank you for the inspiration.
I wasn't quite able to reproduce this on my end, but fixing it should be as easy as copying this variables.rpy file into your /game folder. Thanks for the report.
Ghm, it looks like there was one more condition to trigger the crash. You need to scroll back to previous scene at least one time before trying to click the phone with enabled self-voicing.
Sadly I cannot open the 0.42 version. But it did something new also: normally the downloads just places themselves as executables in the 'downloads' folder, this version made an extra folder and placed itself in there.(Encountered this a few times before with other games. At those times I just stopped following those and deleted them all together. But if possible, I would like to continue with CrimsonHigh).
Wow talk about leaving things on a cliffhanger!! I just spilled a bunch of secrets to Kagone and Kana, and Kama fled from the revelations... Curious who the "that could have gone better" is (although I have an idea), hoping Kana will be able to forgive me! Are her actions because she realized the MC is seeing others, she's not exclusive to him and she struggled with that?
I need Suzu or Miko hugs. STAT! Edit to add something: Kagome likes to say "fricking" a lot when she gets flustered, doesn't she?
I knew she wouldn't take it well, but her screaming "I LOVE YOU!!!" and then finding out the MC is more interested in a harem than just her and fleeing in tears really hurt. MC wanted to be transparent, but Kana took it very badly, for sure,
Well hopefully she'll have a talk with her mom and sister... who may very well point out that as vampires, a "normal" relationship was never really in the cards for them.
One thing while I think about it, do you ever go back and redo old scenes? Clean things up a bit, reword things, make a given character cuter, funnier, or more badass? Asking because another dev I follow mentioned wanting to redo old scenes because he learned a lot on how to convey stuff better and the early scenes seemed clunky to him now. I don't think you need to redo old scenes, but it might be worth seeing if you think Junichiro needs to be more hateful before you strangle him, Miko needs to be cuter, Kana needs to be more possessive, or Suzu being more adorable!
Good question. The short answer is: No, I generally don't do that.
The slightly longer answer is: In rare cases, I do go back and rephrase a few lines of dialogue here and there - if they stick out particularly badly.
While I do feel the same as the other dev, in that my early scenes feel very subpar to me, I don't think it's a good use of my time to go back and rework them. Early-game reworks aren't exactly uncommon in AVNs, but as a player myself - and based on what I've heard from other players - they're generally not received very well, especially by supporters on Patreon and the like.
Sure, it's nice to spruce things up a bit, but for someone who’s already seen the early content, there's little value in slightly enhanced visuals. And new players won't exactly notice the difference if they don't know how it looked originally either.
Now, you could argue that a polished early game might hook more players - especially in a mostly linear VN like CH - and I get the appeal. After all, Junichiro being more hateable or Suzu more adorable could tighten the emotional beats. But in my opinion, it's a slippery slope. You risk sacrificing current supporters' goodwill for the hope of impressing newcomers. That tradeoff rarely pays off in the long run.
The way CH's quality increases throughout the game is a testament to my own journey as a developer. Once the story is finished, I'll have a complete game, as well as a lot of experience to bring into my next project. Yeah, CH as a whole isn't perfect - I had (and still have) a lot to learn - but that's life, isn't it? No point in fretting over it - especially if it means basically exploiting my supporters' patience and desire for more content, when I could instead just keep going, finish the story, and then move on
You did, thank you! Yeah, the other dev said a lot of the things you are - you don't want to anger your supporters, and while fixing the early stuff might make things better, new players won't notice because they don't know, and supporters and long time players would rather focus on new content. Other dev also said it's more "wanting to fix an early scene so it's less clunky, even if no one notices it". If you redid the checking the crime scene at the beginning, who would really notice?
And I'm mostly just not-so-patiently waiting for the next public release!
Wanting to fix something just for the sake of fixing it, I can empathize with - especially if it's a singular and short-lived "rework" that doesn't put the development on hold for months. If you're passionate about your project and feel like something is too big of an eyesore to ignore, fixing it makes a lot of sense. You have to like and be able to be proud of what you're making and putting out there, after all. If you can't do that, chances are much higher that you end up abandoning your project or running it against a wall. So, yeah, I totally get that reasoning. :)
Ghm, but what about fixing the spelling? Right now we have (for example), "behaviour" in one scene and "behavior" in other.
While there are a few characters that may speak with British spelling (Takumi, Morrigan, may be Ori), Ren definitely should speak/think with American one.
And no, I do NOT suggest to have different spelling for different characters- just keep it the same for all texts.

yandere /stalker content maybe?
Maybe?
Food for thought,id love to see your interpretation of that kinda sick passion tho
Let's just say that I do find the yandere archetype kinda intriguing when done right
gotta repeat myself here, something to think about but id LOVE to see your perspective of that archetype in this or one of your future works :)
Heh, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for your curiosity :D
I'm worried about Kana too. I assume that's who you're talking about.

I will stop talking now.

Hey do you like write a lot? It seems to me that you do like to write a lot and focus on the relationship building part as well as the world set

The new file fixes the bug.
Ghm, it looks like there was one more condition to trigger the crash. You need to scroll back to previous scene at least one time before trying to click the phone with enabled self-voicing.
My take aways for this update:
1) I need to replay the game again to confirm if Kagome always had that much cake.
2) I'm glad Miko and Suzu are already in protective custody.
Did you make all the characters and scenarios/places with Koikatsu party?
Yep, that's correct
Wow talk about leaving things on a cliffhanger!! I just spilled a bunch of secrets to Kagone and Kana, and Kama fled from the revelations... Curious who the "that could have gone better" is (although I have an idea), hoping Kana will be able to forgive me! I need Suzu or Miko hugs. STAT! Edit to add something: Kagome likes to say "fricking" a lot when she gets flustered, doesn't she?
She sure does :P
I think we all knew Kana was gonna take this poorly. Vertigo doesn't torture us, but Kana being cool with the harem idea would've been way too easy.
This is one of my fav avn's ever, keep up the amazing work. I actually forgot most of the avn so gonna replay from the beginning!!
Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you! Enjoy your replay :)

"wishes it was the 7th already"
Good question. The short answer is: No, I generally don't do that.
The slightly longer answer is: In rare cases, I do go back and rephrase a few lines of dialogue here and there - if they stick out particularly badly.
While I do feel the same as the other dev, in that my early scenes feel very subpar to me, I don't think it's a good use of my time to go back and rework them.

Facts
i KNOW that damn girl in the poster in the first kiss scene is judging me i just KNOW IT >:(
yeah so GREAT game so far!(i ofc mean nothing negative abt my judging girl comment it is a joke for those who r unaware, have a nice day:)
Poor Kana...
Serious Yandere energy, but still...Poor Kana...
Kagome's scenes were funny and sexy at the same time. She's kinda a muscle mommy isn't she?
Kagome's spit takes made me cack myself laughing though! The look on her face!
